this has been an ongoing story up here, Man buys gun to defend himself, shoots intruder, landlord tries to evict him because it is against their policy for tenants to have guns. I think he is going to win.

PORTLAND, Maine (AP) — A disabled former lobsterman who shot an intruder after buying a gun to defend himself sued his landlord Monday over a policy that prohibits him from keeping a gun in his subsidized apartment.

Harvey Lembo, who uses a motorized wheelchair, was warned by his property management company that tenants are prohibited from having firearms after he shot an alleged burglar in the shoulder after five break-ins.

The lawsuit was filed in Knox County Superior Court.

"We're interested in ensuring that people in Mr. Lembo's position are able to enjoy their full constitution rights, including their right to lawfully possess a firearm in self-defense," said Patrick Strawbridge, his Boston-based attorney.

seems like he wins this case, hope he gets a healthy settlement to discourage other landlords from trying this.

Maine just passed a law making that illegal

AUGUSTA — The Maine Senate quickly and quietly passed a bill Thursday that would prohibit most private landlords who accept public housing vouchers from barring tenants from keeping guns in their apartments.

The bill, backed by the National Rifle Association, was inspired by an incident last year in which a Rockland man shot an intruder in his apartment but was later told by the property management company that he had to relinquish his gun if he wanted to keep living there.

The Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee had voted 8-4 against the bill, after concerns were raised by property owners about the impact on their rights and ability to set rules for their tenants. But those concerns didn’t surface and there was no debate when the bill came up for a preliminary Senate vote Thursday.
