I was wondering when they were going to comment on this, surprised by their response

SAN ANTONIO — Tactics used by Open Carry Texas are being outlawed by at least six national restaurant chains and criticized by the diehard pro-gun National Rifle Association following recent demonstrations by the group's San Antonio chapter at a local Chili's and Sonic.

The growing grassroots Second Amendment organization has gained national attention with rallies across Texas, including last year at the Alamo, where members openly tote long guns, including semi-automatic rifles like the AR-15. Open Carry Texas chapters have published several videos online in which they walk into restaurants, most recently the two San Antonio establishments, with semi-automatic rifles strapped to their backs, seemingly to test the response of management.

The NRA on Friday called the Texas group's open carry displays in restaurants “weird,” “scary,” “counter-productive” and “downright foolishness” in a blog post on the NRA's Legislative Action website. Chili's and Sonic issued statements Friday requesting that patrons not openly carry firearms in their restaurants in response to the incidents.

“Using guns merely to draw attention to yourself in public not only defies common sense, it shows a lack of consideration and manners,” the NRA's lobbying arm wrote. “That's not the Texas way. And that's certainly not the NRA way.”

I'm on the NRA's side on this one.  While you may have the right to do it, your antagonizing more people by acting this way.  You're undermining the cause.

I don't agree with the way they open carried, but I don't agree with the NRA taking a stance like this also

But the NRA is suppose to support the second amendment, it doesn't matter how they carried as far as they should be concerned, citizens pay money to the NRA to defend that right, it doesn't matter if you or I agree with it, but the NRA should imo.

Why would the NRA want to support idiots whose stupid and short sighted actions scare innocent people and make the NRA's job harder. Open carry demonstrations have shown to be politically inflammatory and have resulted in lawmakers creating MORE gun restricting laws in response to said demonstrations.

There is a reason the NRA's quote included the words "counter-productive".

To put it another way, the open carry movement helps the anti-gun crowd.

Well, some people don't feel what the NRA has morphed into is productive at all, maybe those idiots are just trying to do what the NRA is suppose to do, stand up for their rights, if it is legal to open carry and they did not break the law, the NRA should never have commented imo

So then should Florida residents establish a "Stand your ground" movement and begin intentionally seeking out opportunities for stand offs?

The right to open carry in TX already exists. They are not "standing up for their rights" they are abusing those rights in a manner that will cause said rights to be revoked.

The Constitution can and has been amended. Scaring families and employees at a Chilli's restaurant "to see what management's reaction will be" when the answer is obvious? Forget restaurant management, that's the exact sort of action that gets lawmakers involved to try to prevent future incidents.
