I had posted about the flir-one for the iphones, I think those were 399, here is a much cheaper option

The Seek Thermal cam will sell for $199 and it will be be available in micro USB and Lighting connector versions. This means it’ll work with any iPhone after the iPhone 5 and any Android device that runs Android 4.4.2 (KitKat) or above and supports USB host mode. In other words, Seek just released an affordable thermal camera accessory that works with just about any of today’s top smartphones.

The Seek, which requires an app to operate (it doesn’t take over your normal camera app), uses a 12-micron sensor chip manufactured by Freescale. This chip is the real magic here, as Seek co-developed it with Freescale and Raytheon so they are the only company that will be selling it. The sensor records 32,000 pixels, recording temperature levels in each and translating that into an image that is human parseable.

The Seek camera functions great. The app is easy to use, the reading is accurate, and it does everything it says it will, so no surprise there. What’s really interesting is comparing the Seek to the FLIR case. The FLIR was first to market and it nicely protects the camera in a case, but it has a number of shortcomings. The main problems with the FLIR is that it’s $300, it’s restricted to the iPhone 5/5S, and then it must be charged separately from the phone. Less obvious but more importantly, the FLIR has a manual shutter for calibration, which you have to flip open and shut fairly regularly. The Seek does this internally and automatically, which is a much better design. The only downside with the Seek in this respect is that it constantly produces an audible clicking sound. It’s not very loud, but you can hear it and you can’t stop it.
