I shot a few Bernake 2 3/4" slugs out of my 870 Super Magnum once. Once. I couldn't hit a 2 liter bottle 30 feet away. I hope you all have better luck. Those things recoiled like crazy and I think were for punching through engine blocks.
i have an old 870 wingmaster that i shoot 2 3/4" brenneke rottweil (classic magnum) slugs for deer season. the gun itself is forged, not stamped so it's a tank and absorbs some of the recoil. the barrel i use is a 23" smooth, general purpose barrel, so the rifled slugs aren't a problem. i feel like a sniper with the setup. i can put slugs through the same hole at 100 yards while bench shooting and i've made some pretty nice shots during deer season between 50 and 100 yards. i've shot federal, remington, and winchester rifled slugs with decent results, but the brennekes work well for me.
