I thought this was just a conspiracy?
FBI director James Comey recently recommended that we all cover our webcams with tape for security reasons. Comey believes that doing so is a simple step for people to "take responsibility for their own safety and security."
Apparently Comey doesn't want to be spied on. In questions during a conference at the Center for Strategic and International Studies, Comey revealed that cam-covering is commonplace at the FBI and other government offices. "It's not crazy that the FBI director cares about personal security as well," he added. "If you go into any government office, we all have our little camera things that sit on top of the screen, they all have a little lid that closes down on them. You do that so people who do not have authority don't look at you. I think that's a good thing."
That the FBI's director covers his cams may be a surprise to some, just as it was when people spotted Mark Zuckerberg's webcam tape-over in a photo of his Facebook desk this spring.
But many of us who've been paying attention to cybercrime and punishment have been covering our webcams for years, and telling all our friends and family to do it, too. What's more surprising is that it's taken this long for officials and the press to raise the alarm. I mean, they're just a few years behind, but hey, it's nice to know they care.

I think you mean "just a conspiracy THEORY"
It's been going on for a decade? longer? Several years ago we pulled the plug on the xbox kinnect.
60 minutes and others did specials on it some time ago.
The first thing I do to any cellphone/laptop is throw elec. tape on the camera.
Think about it this way....how long until our freedoms are legislated, and corporations or government use your own camera for their justice.
Ten years ago is when. Someone is rotting somewhere right now, and just like horror stories of prisoners driven insane, experimented on, or disappeared, we won't hear about it until 10,20,30 years from now.
Call a computer repair shop. 9/10 guys tape their cameras and are holding onto Windows 7 as long as possible.
On one of my laptops Windows 10 automatically installed itself rendering it unusable!
But yeah, true no doubt.

I use my laptop every day to make my living. When I HAD to upgrade to Windows 10 I was shocked. What a learning curve. I've gotten kinda used to it now, but have often wondered about switching to a MAC. I too cover my camera. Not that I have anything anyone would be interested in, but you never know what can be misconstrued or altered to suit the needs of a not nice person 😉

pretty sure I saw a news article a couple of months ago about this
I forget exactly, but I think Mark Zuckerberg had posted some picture on facebook about getting into STEM fields or programming or some subject not related to this at all, but then people noticed that in the photo he had tape over his computer's camera.
And that is the story that went viral -- facebook founder tapes over camera

we got a new laptop for my wife and it came with windows 10, not a fan at all
They tried to break windows 7. After I didn't upgrade, they were spamming like 5 or 6 new updates a day. I wound up getting all kinds of gnarly memory crashes, and couldn't run my computer for more than a few minutes. Did a clean reinstall of windows 7 with my disk, and they had broken the updater tool. I couldn't even update my computer with the basic framework packages to get my drivers and stuff installed. It took me a week of fiddling with it before I found a fix. Literally had to open the cmd prompts to disable some services in order to be able to manually install a framework package. After that the updater started working again.
Now I have a stable build and have updates disabled. Word on the streets is they are also trying to break Steam to force users to purchase computer games via the microsoft store. Terrible business model if you ask me, and one that will force usuers into alernative OS platforms such as linux. With any luck, software devs will catch on to this and start coding for linux as well.
