currently carry m&p 9mm, thinking of switching to my rock island tactical 1911, very close in size, the 1911 is about a inch longer in the barrel

what would you rather carry? 17 rounds of 9mm or 8 rounds of .45?

I would feel comfortable with either. There is a lot of info out there from internet tacticians that will debate the effectiveness of both rounds in relation to the number of rounds you carry.

My main carry is .380 and Im totally fine with that. To test mine out I used a Speer Gold Dot and shot at two 5 gallon buckets filled with water, with a thick new piece of plywood behind it. It went through all of it. I didnt think it would. A human being would be in rough shape with a few of those in them.

Carry either one. If I can carry my Glock and have it concealed, I carry it. But if I know Im going to have to sit a lot, I dont, its just too uncomfortable. So I switch it up depending on what Im doing or wearing.

I like my sr9c. I also have a .32 revolver for a backup. My father in law gave me the .32 many years ago to protect my wife and kids in case of emergency. I carry it more for sentimental purpose,first gun other then a bb gun.

Which do you feel more accurate with? If the situation is bad enough that eight rounds won't do it, would the extra seven save you?

Put 5K rounds through each and then make up your mind. I am a glock guy because they are point and shoot. To many levers and safetys on the 1911 platform for my taste.
