I'll be curious to see what the possibilities morph in to. I also have a question though, @homesteading-boards - you had made a thread that had your bible of homesteading, or other related topics. I unfortunately can't remember the name, nor the thread title. Could you help?
I think it was published maybe in the 70's? Maybe?
according to that pic, you guys have a ton of field, just by judging from it 5 acres. That can easily graze several beef critters, horses, goats, etc.
So back to my original question. What is your long term goals? I would sit down and write them out. I did a blog post about the importance of setting goals when first starting that might interest you.

if it was me at this point, I would run 4 heads of cattle on it, even if you don't feel comfortable doing it, you can sell them to others to process and make money.

I guess for me, I'm having a hard time even focusing enough to make goals. I do think it's a discussion that will happen once we actually move to the property and get a feel for something like that. We unfortunately won't be able to afford to purchase cattle right away, if we do go down that road.
I do believe a list will help me greatly to organize my thoughts/desires, which in turn will make it easier for me to focus on them individually. I guess I'm just sort of taking things one day at a time at this point and hope to just enjoy it for a little bit...I'm not much of a risk taker, but that is something I must work on!
