I'll be curious to see what the possibilities morph in to.  I also have a question though, @homesteading-boards - you had made a thread that had your bible of homesteading, or other related topics.  I unfortunately can't remember the name,  nor the thread title.  Could you help?

I think it was published maybe in the 70's?  Maybe?

Ion, can you google search for you address and satellite view? Hit printscr on your pc and paste it into paint? Outline your property like I did below and remove any identifying points.

That is so awesome! Thank you very VERY much for the book.  There are wonderful people left in the world!  That made my day!

We did the best we could for our property line, but it should be close enough to give you a fair idea of what we've got going on.

according to that pic, you guys have a ton of field, just by judging from it 5 acres. That can easily graze several beef critters, horses, goats, etc.

So back to my original question. What is your long term goals? I would sit down and write them out. I did a blog post about the importance of setting goals when first starting that might interest you.

if it was me at this point, I would run 4 heads of cattle on it, even if you don't feel comfortable doing it, you can sell them to others to process and make money.

I guess for me, I'm having a hard time even focusing enough to make goals.  I do think it's a discussion that will happen once we actually move to the property and get a feel for something like that.  We unfortunately won't be able to afford to purchase cattle right away, if we do go down that road.

I do believe a list will help me greatly to organize my thoughts/desires, which in turn will make it easier for me to focus on them individually.  I guess I'm just sort of taking things one day at a time at this point and hope to just enjoy it for a little bit...I'm not much of a risk taker, but that is something I must work on!

that's the spirit!

Do you know what the house on the right plants in that field? Might be able to rent it out to them until you guys are ready to utilize it.
