Hi, we live in western Maine, currently in a small cabin with hot/cold running water, a real bathroom with a shower. We are extremely well insulated and use wood heat with a propane wall furnace for back-up. Gas stove and refrigerator. We employ a hybrid generator/inverter/solar power system that works perfectly for us. We have a regular land line, high speed internet, satellite TV, etc.
We are having a very mild winter this year, which is alright. The snow that falls in December usually stays until early-mid April. Last year we had 4.5' of snow on the ground for most of the winter, the year before it was 5.5' of snow.
It is very rural here. Walmart is a 66 mile round trip, though we have a grocery store 7.5 miles away in town.
We hope to get a house up this summer, and then we will turn our cabin into the tractor barn it's supposed to be.
Meanwhile, we are living large in the woods of Maine.
I posted information in the Alternative Energy forum, if anyone is interested.
The attached photo is from when I had my radio in the lawn shed.
