WM...we are not on the farm just yet.  We are building this year.  I grew up on the land and later purchased the land/barn/equipment from my father (the house was long ago subdivide out).  Been planning on getting back for over 15 years now.

We have our plans, our permits, and this past December we dug out for the Alaskan Foundation and covered it with 4 inches of washed #1 stone.  We are ready to form and place concrete when the weather breaks.

We are building a lot like KVR and Speed Funk here...I will be pleased if ours turns out half as good as theirs.

One of the ideas in the back of our heads was to maybe build several small places around the farm...places that are alternative: strawbale, cordwood, etc...and rent them out for that 'roughing it' experience...not sure we will go that way, but I think the idea can work for some weekend income...just small one room type places.

something we have been thinking about but more from an alternative building school angle, have people pay me to build stuff

Exactly!  Have them pay to 'learn'...and a nominal fee for a cook out of course...a different alternative type of construction over the summer for a few years...as one get's done...rent it out...and move on.

yep, a friend who is a contractor and I have been thinking about buying a 50 acre lot and subdividing it into 5 acre sections, could do a different style on each one.
