I would like to introduce myself.  I am John Howard.  I consider myself a rugged individualist in the manner of the first Americans.  While homesteading and living off grid might seem new to some, I have lived this way all my life.  I lived off grid in the Amazon for almost 20 years.  I now live in Texas on a 20 acres.  I have to say, that homesteading in Texas has been way more difficult then anywhere I have lived.  In the Amazon, I could extract 99% of the resources I need from nature.  Texas has not natural resources to extract, unless you count cactus and mesquite trees a resource.  I have had to learn a lot in the last ten years living here and overcome many obstacles to becoming self sufficient. Some obstacles are of nature, such as temperature extremes and damaging weather, but some obstacles are man made, such the complete extinction of any landrace farm animals in the US as result of generations target breeding efforts for show and production.

Anyways, I like doing things myself and inventing creative ways to deal with new challenges. I have invented many thing over the years. 

My Philosophy!

I am not a prepper or an paranoid anti-government person who is trying to hide out.  I am not a conspiracy nut either and have no patience with people who are constantly trying to push that crap down my throat just because they assume from my lifestyle that I must be "One of them".  I am just person that enjoys being self sufficient life and producing my own food.  But I don;t think it is the only way to live, or that my way is better then anyone else' way.  It is just what is right for me. 

I think way outside the American philosophical box on most issues, and have the life experience to back my thoughts up if challenged or attacked, but I also respect everyone's right to disagree with me as long as they show me the same respect.  

My Personality!

I enjoy a hardy intelligent discussion with respectful mature people who act like adults and use proper debating form, but have zero patience with immature people who only have criticism and sarcasm to offer.  If you choose to cross opinion blades with me at some point, please do so in an intelligent and rational manner, using tangible facts and logic to back up your thoughts and we will get along fine.  Start posting short sarcastic twitter style wisecracks, and we will not.  I respect everyone's right to to have their own opinion, but if you should choose to try to convince me that your opinion is the right opnion, you had better have the tangible rational facts to back it up.
