Several of the guys I fish with have them, most have either the Hero 2 or Hero 3. I think I'm gonna splurge after taxes and get the Hero 3 black edition, I like the idea of using the remote to start and stop the camera when I'm fishing without having to fumble around with the camera.

My friend had one mounted to front of his boat and captured the video of a larger boat running over the top of his boat almost killing him and destroying his boat. If he posted the video on youtube I guarantee it would have a million hits, but he wont post it for some reason. Its one of the scariest real videos I have ever seen. I will never fish the same way again when other boats are around.

I have the Hero 2, and I am pretty happy with it. The versions you'll see are based on mounting options, the camera is the same in all options. The moto edition has suction cup mounts, the action editioin has more straps for body mounts, etc.
A couple things that did not stoke me out:
- The wide angle video (and I believe camera settings) are achieved via fish-eye lens so you'll get the typical distortion towards the edges with the fisheye. I did not know this so I was a bit unhappy. This is a video from early last year: . If you pay attention to the hydro poles at the start or the trees at the very end you'll notice the edges are very convex. I think this could be overcome with a filter in most editing softwares.
- The time lapse photo option on the camera is not customizable. I think they allow a 1 or 2 second laps, but I was hoping I could pick the intervals. The short intervals make sense given it is an action sports camera, but still a bummer.
All the above is based on the Hero 2, so things may have changed for v3.
