Back under the vinyl top? Kind of looks bad. Having said that, if it's something you really like/want I would jump on it. You don't know when/if you'll get another affordable opportunity like this.

1.5 hours away? Get him to meet you 1/2 way. If he's not comfortable taking the car for a 90 minute round trip, that would tell you what he thinks of the reliability of the car.
