Been looking at a few vehicles which need a air brake license. It is only a 12 hour course and is cheap but I am hoping to get some advice on the benefits of air brake systems. Is the only benefit being able to stop a larger weight system?
For a hauler vehicle is it easier and better to have a larger more commercial engine and drive train. Is diesel still the way to go?
IC BE200 is what I am looking at.
I just asked my dad who was a mechanic for over 40 years and drove school bus and worked in the garage, he says he would be careful of where you buy it from, if it's from a school district you should be okay because of the maintenance programs they have, still ask to see their maintenance log for it. For larger loads diesel is the best way to go, more power on the lower end and usually last longer which benefits long hauling, downside is diesel is more expensive. As far as the air brakes, anything with significant weight the air brakes are needed, brakes lines wouldn't be able to handle the pressure from a hydraulic system that would be needed to stop it. A air system is usually less maintenance and he says the only reason we don't see them in smaller vehicles is the braking system engages too fast and doesn't provide feedback to the driver like a hydraulic system
Don't know if that answers your question, anything more specific let me know and I will ask him

BC building codes say that a structure can be 10' by 10' without a building permit. Although there seems to be no height restrictions. Unless mobile ... so I mobile workshop is needed.
I just recounted I have 11 out buildings so far. All designed from pallets which I have 1200 of at a phone call away. Homesteading with permits pfft. Hardest part is finding 1-100 acres at a realistic price.
From my research it seems many people are out of funds after the house. So I am thinking of starting with all my coops, pastures, fencing, sheds, etc.
Then save and design a efficient house (with a permit) knowing what I still need from it for the Homestead.
My truck/RV should be outfitted by June if all goes well. Wood shop, metal shop and forge.
The sheer amount of crap (useful crap) I am looking forward to building just from free stuff on Craigslist excites me. Should be also starting a new apprenticeship also around the same time. Figured could always use a 3rd Master cert.

I already earned my Masters' in Cabinet Making, although I have not done the trade for ten years.
Next is going for Master Blaster and a Explosives Engineer Degree if everything goes as planned. Which it never does. lol
Simple to get a Master cert. seems nobody wants to be a blaster. Should take only 1-2 years field and school time. Then 1-2 years for the degree. Then I can grow potatoes in peace like a Philosophy PHD driving a cab.
