is it really that expensive of a hobby or are these just top of the line models? I almost fell over when I saw the price on this, heck you could get a real psl for not much more

It's expensive. I never got into airsoft but I did play a lot of paintball when I was a younger man, both sports are really expensive. And yes, decent model markers will run you the same as a real firearm.

I used to play paintball semi-competitively and my last few guns were in excess of $1000. It's very expensive to gear up. A high end hopper alone can run over $100.

I haven't played in a long time (money, age and weight aren't in my favor) but paintball has moved from the woods to open fields with inflatable bunkers. While still fun, it's just not the same imo. I personally loved playing in the woods. A lot of the guns now (especially high end ones) are electronic and operate of HPA (4500 PSI carbon fiber tanks).

Some of the guys at work and I train pretty hard, but no matter what we do its still just target shooting. I like the idea of being able to purchase nearly exact replicas of the firearms I use. Training against a living, moving and thinking adversary that can shoot back brings training to a whole new level. The ability to use the same muscle memory, holsters, slings and mag pouches is pretty appealing also. I have done some research and shopping around. It may be a tough sell to some of the guys but I think the training and experience received will be well worth it in the long run.

No doubt. I can def. see that. I've always felt that my paintball experience would be helpful if I ever had to shoot someone. Not in the tactical sense, but more in the hesitation sense.
