my daughter wants one, been trying to talk her out of it, her old iphone works fine, but it's her money, so I swung by verizon, she can upgrade her phone for 200 dollars and her 4s she can trade back in and will get a 200 visa giftcard, so since it's no money out of pocket, why not I guess
but I'm seeing mixed reviews for them online, wat do?

If I were in your place, before concerning myself with the tech, I would debate if there were a life lesson. Namely that I was not instilling a "Keeping up with the Jones'" neurosis. I don't know your daughter well enough to know if that could be a concern, but modern turnover of products has become a frenetic pace. You and I grew up without this trend and can see it for the marketing bonanza that it is. To her generation it seems normal unless we educate them to see it for what it is: a money vacuum.
You should also make sure upgrading her phone wont affect your plan... most especially your data plan. Do you have unlimited data? If you do, the upgrade could cause you to loose it. Best to make sure beforehand.
I had that thought as well, but she's almost 18 and even though she does show a little of that mentality once in awhile, she keeps it in check for the most part, she's had the same phone for almost 3 years and has been working 4 shifts a week washing dishes, saving up the money to purchase it

Then again, if I were in your position the only other thing i would do is have her research the product and the tech herself to help her develop the habit of making informed purchases. Have her treat it like a book report with a bibliography, only it can be an oral report. Have her convince you and the wife it will be a good investment. Then let her get it. If you do this extra step, explain the motivation/life-lesson intended. Then surprise her at the end by treating her to an accessory or something.
The iPhone is the best overall phone money can buy. There are phones that have features some people prefer that the iPhone doesnt have. Android can do some things that are functionally more useful to many. But the iPhone is solid in every single area be it hardware and software.
Im sure she knows more about the phone than most of us here. If she already has one, then this is a no-brainer, especially if its free.
