Well it was me that had the visit from the census guy and it didn’t go well. The man that showed up to my house was an overbearing jerk who tried to get pushy with the wrong guy. Standing on my front step he gave his line, scolded me for not replying in written form and requested entry into my home so I could comply with the required data. About a month ago I got a packet in the mail which is what I assume is what he was talking about. While standing on my front step in the cold, I was dressed for it he wasn’t; I told him my dog would not allow him into the house. My shepherd is barking insanely and throwing himself against the door to get out and get a piece of this guy. He then threatened me with criminal prosecution if I failed to comply. I politely advised him that this was my busy time of year and to maybe come back in the spring when I had more time. He advised that would not be possible and I would need to comply with the census before the end of the month. I told him four people live here and I was willing to give him gender and ages. He stated that was not going to satisfy my required duty to submit. He then again went on to explain that I could be criminally prosecuted for failing to comply. I again told him four people lived here. He repeated his threat that I could be prosecuted for not complying several more times. This escalated; on his part, not mine as I stayed calm until I decided I had had enough. I took a step back, and stated that I felt threatened by his presence here. I don’t know if that is part of their training or what, but after saying those words he couldn’t leave my property fast enough. I am sure this isn’t over by a long shot, but I am not giving in. Strangely enough none of my neighbors got anything in the mail or got a visit from anyone.

rinkus, you did the right thing. The only information that you are obligated to give the census is the amount of people living in the house. This will go no further.

If you do the research, they threaten a lot of people but nothing ever happens. They have no right to the info they are requesting and they know it. They feel they can bluff you into giving it to them.

Rinkus did some research and they are not allowed to demand entry into the home and the threat of 5000 fines seems to be just that, empty threats
