He's stealing the Diaz technique. He doesnt want to do all the promotion that comes along with a big fight (Nick is famous for not showing up).
So since he has leverage on the UFC, this is either a negotiating tactic or maybe he truly believes he made enough money and he's out.
He always said he came from nothing so going back to it would be easy.
Interested to see where this goes.

If he does "retire" expect to see him back, probably in another organization within 18 months. he's in his prime and won't sit on the sideline long.

He can't though, only if the UFC releases him, the retirement clause is basically just a freeze, it's why Couture couldn't fight Fedor in M-1
