anyone watched this? made by Tom Hanks
Electric City is the kind of postapocalyptic story in which dystopian sci-fi is a vehicle for nostalgia. (A similar sort of current runs through Tom Hanks blockbusters as disparate as Forrest Gump and Toy Story.) The world has suffered an as-yet-unspecified disaster a reference to the lost cities near the swollen lakes suggests a global-warming tie-in, which is buttressed by the central place that the generation of electricity holds in the story.
After the standard interregnum of rape and pillage, seen in flashbacks, a fragile society has emerged: agrarian and frontierlike (board sidewalks), but with a lot of modern design; seemingly at an early-20th-century level of technology, but with Oregon-style coffee huts and, judging by the characters wardrobes, a nearby Barneys Co-op. The lovingly rendered props include blimps, old-time radio microphones and pneumatic tubes.
