I dread it too.  Got ours done last month...sucks.  As for the Flat Tax pros and cons...I just want less taxes and I want it simple...lol...like I will ever see that.

In a dream...Me and the Mrs work, run the farm as a money loosing business, education expenses for me Mrs and one kid, some house stuff...no fun.  In a related note, federal/state/local taxes are all out of hand IMO. 

The tax system is highly dysfunctional.

lol, I wish, I've owned my own business for the past 10 years, the tax code is so confusing that there is no way I could do it myself with screwing it up so I have to use an accountant, and even she has made mistakes.

a friend has a small gentleman's farm, he grows some beans, peas, etc and raises alpacas, I think they only show a profit every 5 years

We are allowed to depreciate equipment, it drives everything right into the ground as far as profit on paper goes...still a ton of paperwork.

I wish we could depreciate the year of purchase instead of over 7 years, they force you to go for financing, if you pay in cash you are screwed
