My daughter should be getting her license in the spring, and I guess it's time to be looking for a first car for her. I have a 97 saab I was going to let her use, but I think it will take to much work to get it running correctly. Plus now that they discontinued saab's parts might be a issue. Any recommendations?

Honda Accord. Great on gas, easy to fix, last forever. Get a Vtech motor if you can. You can find a ten year old Accord for a great price and it will last her 20 years.

Some small Toyota. Never dies, low cost, not too fast, low maintenance.

My last two cars were an Accord and a Civic, bot used. Can't go wrong with either really. The civic is a smaller car so that might be a bit better for a new driver for parking, etc.

Toyota Corolla would be good as well as it is Toyota's offering to compete with the Civic.

You should have little to no maintenance issues, both a cheap to purchase, cheap to run, and very safe vehicles.

If you go the civic route I would suggest 4 door if you can. I found the two doors had a horrible blind spot issue that made me feel unsafe when changing lanes during my test drive. My accord was 2 door but it did not have this issue as it is a bit bigger.

lol, outback is a good choice as well, I really would like a 4WD or AWD, have they fixed the rusting issues with them, I remember the older subarus having bullet proof engines, just the body would rust away to nothing
