whats this guy doing riding the nyc subway? he trying to end up on the wrong end of a world star video?
Umm get from point A to point B before dying of old age? What exactly is it that you imagine about the NYC Subway that he or anyone else for that matter would choose to avoid it? Celebs ride the Subway in NYC just like everyone else if they live there or have spent enough time there. Travel by car takes forever in NYC. The biggest danger he faces is getting mobbed by clueless tourists for autographs. You'll notice he's being left alone. NY'ers are called jaded for a reason. To you, a celeb on the Subway is news, to a native NY'er, it's an everyday thing.

I am serious. Those videos are meaningless and do not make your point. It's a youtube world now, just because you can find example videos, does not change the fact that such occurrences are the exception, not the rule.
I too could pull endless youtube videos of senseless and stupid scuffles from other areas of the country. But those videos would still be the exceptions to the rule and wouldn't prove anything.
I was born and raised in NYC during a time with much higher crime stats than what exist now and never once did anything remotely resembling the videos occur. While the number of crimes may sound high, because there is such a large population, the actual percentages are much lower.
NYC is a VERY safe place to live. So safe, it creates a fish bowl isolation to residents that results in different attitudes towards issues like gun ownership and carry permits. It's simple, when you never have anything bad happen, you feel safe, if you feel safe, you don't need a gun for defense, if you don't need one you cannot fathom why anyone else would.
Thinking the videos you posted are a reflection of life in NYC or of riding the Subway is pure fantasy. I tell you what, lets get every active member of the forum to travel to NYC and spend a week riding the subways all times of day and night while passively filming. Then lets post all that to youtube. Aside from the boring nothing happens videos, the interesting footage will resemble the videos at the bottom of this post.

Spoken like someone who's never been. The simple reality of NYC is you don't drive. Why? Not just traffic, but parking. You better be good at parallel parking if you are going to try, but you will never find a parking space without risking a $40+ parking ticket or getting blocked in by double parking unless you pay for a garage, which was $20+ 20 years ago, I dread to think what they cost now. Garages in NYC are not like in other places. They are tiny, cramped, tightly packed, and you don't get to park it yourself. Plus, when you want your car back, they may need to move a bunch of cars just to get to yours. That is IF you can find a garage with available spaces or close to your destination. Depending on where in the city you are, you could find that the closest garage is not close at all.
If you must go by vehicle rather than subway, your choices are limo, taxi, or bus. Car service (aka limo) is the most expensive and unless you schedule it ahead of time, you'll be waiting on them to get to you through traffic just to pick you up. Taxi is also very expensive. It is the better option since you can generally flag one down anywhere... that said, you'll be competing with dozens of other people who want the same cab, are a block or more closer, and will beat you to it because they are natives and know what its like to compete for a taxi. Next is the bus. They are the same price as subway and you will pack in like cattle just like the subway. The buses are pretty regular and will get you where you want to go, but they take longer than the subway and the farther you want to travel, the longer it takes. The bus is good if you are traveling short distances through residential areas, or east/west.

Let's try some real NYC Subway videos. Stuff that you will see literally everyday: Street performances...

No, you can hear a loudspeaker announcement in the video that he is one stop away from "34th Street Herald Square" which is smack in the middle of Manhattan. Herald Square is where you'll find Madison Square Garden and Macy's Department store among other things.
Maybe he was headed to Macy's?
