No one knows the exact date or time, but February, 2015 was when the machines drew first blood.
A 52-year-old woman in South Korea was innocently sleeping on her floor when her robot vacuum awoke on its regular schedule with a hunger for dirt. It ambled around the home they shared in tenuous peace until it found out she was encroaching on the one place it could call its own—the floor—and the vacuum would not stand for this transgression.
It sneaked up on her and set about its “off with their heads” revolution by first sucking up her hair. Luckily for the woman, the hair pulling woke her before the vacuum could fully consume her head, and she somehow managed to call the fire department while a robot feasted on her scalp. With some effort, the firefighters were able to to free the woman from her maniacal mechanical servant, but the robot had to be put down in the process.
The woman was physically uninjured, but we can only guess that the psychological toll will never allow her to look at her other appliances the same way again. This peace can clearly only last for so long.
