As well as his wife, he also failed to notify local authorities about the demolition, which earned him a criminal mischief charge from police and a $300 bail charge.
Neither the gas or electricity supply was shut off before the demolition took place, which could have caused a fire or explosion.
A neighbour told a local news station News 4 New York that Andryshak was “very upset” when she discovered her house had been reduced to rubble - not least because it was still full of her personal belongings.
Mr Rhein is adamant he didn’t do anything wrong, saying the house was unsalvagable and "had to come down” because of bad foundations.
