I don't think it would hurt to pursue, especially if you could present some terms for consulting -- e.g. your # of hours, pay, expectations, etc. That way you can make the situation most advantageous for yourself -- and if the guy doesn't like your terms than no big deal. It never hurts to learn more information about a situation.

i think consulting is a good idea. gives you more flexibility and with the experience you have, you would be legit as a consultant. Maybe after this job, you can take a few more consulting gigs
