What a great thing to do
WESTLAND, MICH. - A suburban Detroit police officer is being lauded for purchasing a car seat for a father who couldn't afford one instead of giving him ticket.
Inkster resident LaVonte Dell told The Detroit News that he was driving in Westland on Monday when he was pulled over by an officer for having tinted windows on his vehicle. He told the officer, identified by Westfield police as Joshua Scaglione, he couldn't afford to buy a new car seat for his 3-year-old daughter, Lauren, when the officer noticed she wasn't in one.
"I asked him why is she back there without a car seat. It's not safe. He teared up a little bit and told me he was going through some tough times," Scaglione told WXYZ-TV.
Scaglione ultimately asked Dell to follow him to Wal-Mart so the officer could purchase a car seat for the girl with his own money.
"I related to the fact that I've been in that situation before. I realized this was the perfect opportunity to help him," Scaglione said.
