well looking at the site some more, if I take a 20,000 dollar pay cut, I would get a 5000 dollar discount, really debating just paying the penalty and sticking the premium monthly into a savings account and using it when needed, need to discuss this with the wife when she gets backWell the problem is if you do have a serious problem, you're screwed. As expensive as the premiums and deductible are, they're a drop in the bucket if something serious happens. My daughter had a congenital heart defect, and her repair was close to $100K. A few years ago, she had a stroke, and I think her medical care (including therapy) was probably over $200k.
that's a good point, and I aint getting any younger, hope your little one is doing better ET, she's a cutie

My wife and I added up my diabetic supplies one time and just my supplies and meds for one month alone are about $3k! Needless to say, when it came to finding a job, good benefits were more important than overall salary for me. I feel for you K.
wow, that's crazy!
So my daughter fainted getting out of the shower. Fell and hit her head. Sitting at hospital now. She's fine. They think she is just dehydrated so they have her on an iv. woman at desk asked for insurance info. Said we didn't have any. Some woman came over a little later and asked if we wanted to fill out a form for financial aid. I almost lost it.

If you have cash on hand, you may be able to negotiate with the hospital on pricing.
Fill out the financial aid paperwork. Find out what the hospital is offering as a reduced rate. Go back to the hospital a few days later with the number they gave you and try to further negotiate a discount based on paying cash. If you can find out what Medicare or your state indigent insurance covers, that's probably the bottom basement the hospital will accept as payment. My uncle and aunt owned a gas station/convenience store and only had catastrophic insurance. The rest of their medical expenses they negotiated and payed cash.
hang in there, man.
yeah, we've dealt with it before, when we first went on our own we had basic coverage, 15,000 deductible 80/20 after that. Was fine until our daughters appendix ruptured and she spent a week in the hospital, our portion of the bill was almost 25,000. We paid on that for almost 5 years, they approached us when the balance was around 18,000 and said they would settle for less, I asked how much, they said 12,000.
It was generous of them, but I didn't have that kind of money just laying around, so we kept on paying on it.
We finally got a better plan that was 548 a month, 3500 deductible per family member, included testing and a bunch of other benefits, we were happy with it. Remember when the lying bastards said if you were happy with your plan you could keep it? Not so much, so we kept pushing off till the enrollment opened, we were debating getting nothing, but we finally settled on a silver plan for 866 a month, only thing is for some reason it doesn't go into affect till 2/1, so we are without insurance for this month, still haven't figured out how the hell that worked out like that
