Was talking to newsettler today about something and I asked him if he had disabled geotagging on his pictures, he had no idea what that was, so i showed him on his phone through his camera settings

Another thing people overlook is to make sure their photobucket, flickr etc is set to private. I have deleted pics for people here and pm'ed when that was a concern. I really appreciate you guys sharing pics here, but just make sure your albums are private so that people can't see your 2 year old childs birthday party.

What other tips can you think of?

I'm hesitant and nervous about the whole online thing. Some of the things those bastards from /Anon can do is freaky. I don't know enough to offer any tips though. I would probably recommend using different screen-names for each forum/site you use. Otherwise, it's pretty easy to google the name and get a TON of info about you and who knows what you posted several years ago on some site or some older geotagged photos, or some other sensitive info.

that is good point as well ET, it's one of the ways I approve people here, i just google the user name they sign up with, quite often it will show up on spam catcher sites, I have deleted about 700 sign ups over the past year

Something else I would recommend is a hierarchy of email addresses. I

Address A- This is the vault. It's only used for financial companies, has a VERY secure PW and is used for NOTHING else.

Address B- General family/friends email.

Address C- General account that is used for most stores, retail, and stuff like that.

Address D- Email that you use for everything else, including forums, and so-on.

Its just a matter of time for anyone. Having numerous emails and mixed passwords across everything you do doesnt matter. All that will do is possibly prevent social engineering attacks.

Individuals arent usually attacked. Its entire site databases. The guys who hack say a Walmart database arent then going to find out who each individual is and where they do their shopping and banking. They have enough already. In and out. Why risk tracking down one person. You have thousands and thousands of opportunities right where they are with what they have in that Walmart database.
