Maybe not the same programs but I havent ever not found a free replacement....like what kind of programs would you need?

Open Office is open source software, just like Linux. It comes standard upon installation. Its not called Libre Office.
Audacity would work too.
Your GoPro would work too.

There is a small learning curve. Once you tinker around with it, you will love it. Once you get it up and running I can show you how to do some stuff in the Terminal, like installing software, etc...its slick.

Its funny because so many homesteaders are so very concerned with privacy and doing business with people who do things the right way. Yet we all spend out time on Microsoft and/or Apple products. These companies arent saving the world or doing business the right way. They are huge, ruthless companies.
Its hard to cut out companies like Google, MS, Apple, completely from your life. Especially in the age of smartphones.
But using a Linux operating system can get you thinking of how you can become more independent of these large companies.
This deserves a watch.
