Chromebooks are awesome. Ive had the Samsung for over a year now. No problems at all.
The knee jerk reaction for most is to say they are "limited". I would love to know how they are. I am in IT as well, though I don't think its relevant.
For the average joe, they are virtually unbeatable. No viruses, fast boot time, easy to use, and the OS is rock solid. The hardware on some leaves a bit to be desired. But for me, my $200 Samsung has been worth every penny over the last 18 months or so. I anticipate it will last me at least one more year.
The Acer C720 is nice. There is now an Asus version. Ive heard very good things about the Toshiba as well.

I installed the Chromium OS on a Dell netbook a few years back. I liked the concept but didn't like that it was hard to work with wen doing more than just browsing the web or typing up docs. I think it is good as a secondary computer but not a primary. I feel the same way about iPhones -- some limitations.

That's what I was wondering I really don't do anything more than work on the site and email. don't do any gaming or photo shop etc
It would be a good fit. They also come with two years of Google Drive (100GB) for free. You can keep what you've uploaded after that time period is up, but you would have to pay to keep adding to it if you haven't filled it up. Which becomes like $2 a month. I use it as a back up for photos, books, random receipts, in addition to my external hard drives.
They can also be quite capable. Ive done some coding on it, some minor photo editing, as well as plugged it into my TV to become a media center of sorts.
The battery on mine still goes 6 or more hours as well, which is nice.
