probably one of the best documentaries over the last several years
RESTREPO is a feature-length documentary that chronicles the deployment of a platoon of U.S. soldiers in Afghanistan's Korengal Valley. The movie focuses on a remote 15-man outpost, "Restrepo," named after a platoon medic who was killed in action. It was considered one of the most dangerous postings in the U.S. military. This is an entirely experiential film: the cameras never leave the valley; there are no interviews with generals or diplomats.
really I thought you were a fan of documentaries? I agree
In general no, Im not. So many of them give you such a false sense of having learned something. Most people watch one and then walk around talking about everything they saw in it, as though its the Gospel truth. Its just assumed that because it was a documentary, its true. All of it.
Look at Micheal Moore. Now Ive enjoyed his to a degree but he fluffs them up with his own agenda and he lets that get in the way.
Restrepo is great. It Might Get Loud is amazing. RevolutionOS is dear to me. King of Kong is a must watch. There are several others Ive enjoyed.
But in general I steer clear. Many are glorified Dateline NBC episodes.
