what do you guys think of this? Good thing or bad thing?

Students will learn about the benefits and potential dangers of online activity in Grade 1 and about “sexting” in Grade 4 under Ontario’s revised sex education curriculum, which will be released Monday.

The Canadian Press obtained a copy of a “quick facts” guide for parents that will be released as part of the first update of the province’s health and physical education curriculum since 1998 – before smartphones and sexting became part of our vocabulary.

The guide says students in Grades 1, 2 and 3 will learn initial searching skills and strategies for safe Internet use, including “how to get help for themselves or others if harassment or abuse happens either face-to-face or online.”

The primary grade students will also learn the difference between real and fictional violence, in the media or with online games, and “respectful communications” in the gym, classroom and schoolyard.

I am fine with it.  I like the part about teaching people to interpret body language and facial expressions.  Kids are becoming sexual at earlier and earlier ages, so we might as well get ahead of the curve and give them an understanding of what is happening.  It is important to note that the actual sex ed portion of the revamp becomes more forward as the student ages.

Ideally the parents would do this, but a lot will not so it falls on society to do it for them.

I think that's the problem I have with it, it's the state taking over parenting. I would prefer if they had an option to opt out of the classes

as K-E a lot of parents will not do this

Also, a lot of times, the last person a teenager wants to hear about sex is their parent

I have no issue with sex education, we had it in high school, this just seems over reaching to me
