BATAVIA — An Ohio driver faces several charges after he reportedly caused a crash on the Thruway near Batavia April 21 that was caught on video.
The crash was recorded on a dash-cam video that was uploaded to You Tube where it has more than 250,000 pageviews as of Monday afternoon.
Tim Linton recorded the accident on his dash-cam. The video shows a black Camaro trying to get past the vehicles in front of him by passing on the left shoulder of the road.
The Camaro crashes into the truck and a tractor trailer, sending all three vehicles off the road. No serious injuries were reported.
Driver Kiran Thapa, 32, of Columbus, Ohio, was later charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, a misdemeanor. State police said his blood alcohol content was .19 percent. Thapa was also charged with first-degree aggravated unlicensed operation, a Class E felony.
Thapa was arraigned in Town of Batavia Court and remanded to Genesee County Jail in lieu of $2,500 cash bail or $5,000 bond.
