do you know where the reset button is on your furnace? if you push it does it kick on for thirty seconds and shut off, or do nothing? Also albinorhino is a HVAC contractor, shoot him a PM, he would have some good advice

We too are one pay check away. I often feel like I am teetering right on the edge of my own personal cliff. I mostly have to try to not think about all of the things around here that need repair.

I am at least warm, dry, fed and we just about have our car situation worked out.

Well, I opened it up and right away I saw a broken red wire going to a circuit board. I touched it to the screw on the board and the furnace started right up. I killed the power, reattached the wire and im good to go.

I cant imagine how much someone would have charged me to fix this thing.

Took some willingness to take a look and 3 minutes of labor.

Thanks everyone for the advice and motivation. Its warmer in here already!

We're actually past that point. We can't blame the economy (a whole lot). We just had some bad luck coupled with bad choices. It is what it is.

I really admire that you don't play the victim's part, or cast about looking for who to blame or for a handout. Rather, you deal with it and look for what you can do to improve it. If I could bottle your willingness to be personally accountable, we could solve a whole lot of this nation's problems.

Well it's the truth. About the only role the economy is playing in it is that we weren't able to sell our house before it was too late. The market was already sliding. Hindsight being what it is, we should have sold the house for a loss, and just paid the difference and we could have come out the other side with our credit intact.
