I did the 12 weeks about a year and a half ago and had HUGE gains in weight and size. For some reason I got bored with it and stopped. I was just over 300 lbs with my squats and DLs and my bench was getting decent as well (my worst excercise).
I have maintained my strength but my weight loss has stagnated, so Im back on it as of last week.
The basics are: start light and add 5lbs every time you go while doing five sets of five reps. Over the course of the 12 weeks you really get up there in terms of weight.
You just alternate each workout day with these simple excecises:
StrongLifts 5x5 Workout A: Squat 5x5, Bench Press 5x5, Barbell Rows 5x5
StrongLifts 5x5 Workout B: Squat 5x5, Overhead Press 5x5, Deadlift 1x5
Back when I first did it, I started with the bar only. You feel like a fool for a few weeks and you are tempted to work out more. But just stay the course. I went from a max squat of about 185lbs to just over 300lbs in about 12 weeks.
I have thrown in pull ups to the mix some days, push ups as well.
Just wanted to share.
Ask me questions if you like. Im not an expert by any means but I have had success with this plan.
