Some of you know that I have a problem with people thinking that their student loans should magically disappear. This is an interesting article that shows the level of debt out there in the world of Student Loan Land.

This is absurd. The thing is, even if you "forgive" these debts, it's not going to help the debt holder understand the responsibility and consequences of taking out loans. Ugh.

This article is from 2014 but makes some good points about student loans being unsecured vs a mortgage at least being tied to some real estate.
Scary to look at Student Loan debt (over 1 trillion), Credit Card debt, Mortgage debt, Now there is growing concern over Auto Financing debt, Federal Deficit...no idea what the total outstanding debt is here...more scary than I want to know.

"At least with the housing bubble, the loans were secured," Traitz says. "Though the collateral was declining in value, there was still something to repossess in the case of default. When it comes to student loans, they can't be discharged and there is no collateral for the government to attach in an effort to recover taxpayers' money."
