I guess no good deed goes unpunished is correct

EAST LIBERTY, Pa. —

A Pittsburgh man held a protest Thursday afternoon outside the Target store in East Liberty, because he says they’re suing him.

Michael Turner was one of the several who came to the aid of a teenager who was stabbed inside the store in March 2013.

“Why would you want to help people if you’re just going to get sued?” Turner told Channel 11’s Carly Flynn Morgan.

According to Turner, he’s being sued, because he was swinging a bat inside the store when the incident took place.

Documents obtained by Channel 11 News confirmed that the store is suing him and others for their response during the situation.

Target claimed that Turner pursued the attacker, Leon Walls, onto the premises and through the store, causing unreasonable risk of harm to others.

"I figure if I come out here and let the public see what's going on, I think I'll get some help from the public,” Turner said Thursday.

Walls was ultimately found guilty but mentally ill.

The lawyer for Allison Meadows, the teen who was stabbed, described the suit as Target’s attempt to blame someone else for the incident.

“We have sued Target, because they failed to keep Allison safe. Suing Michael Turner is just Target's way of trying to blame someone else for what happened under their own roof. The family certainly doesn't blame Mr. Turner, and they are thankful he was there that day,” Lisa Circeo, Meadows’ lawyer, wrote in a statement to Channel 11 News.

According to Turner, he hasn’t been able to work because his pelvis was fractured in the incident.

"I feel very sad inside. Now, you got to think twice when it comes to helping someone. You may get sued,” he said.

When reached for comment, the law firm representing Target said they do not comment on active litigation.

At 6 p.m. Thursday, Target sent Channel 11 News the following statement: "Target disputes Mr. Turner’s version of events. However, we cannot comment further because litigation is pending."
