Just wanted to publicly thank Speed and his amazing family for letting us visit him this weekend. Great place!
Seeing it really helped my wife envision our place...that was worth the trip alone!
....and has he got a lot of rocks at his place!
A lot of soul in that home. Thanks again and keep the peace.
....sharing knowledge and experience is an awesome thing...very glad we all have this forum here as a resource!

She was always on board...but without 'seeing something like it', well there was a bit of doubt....but this visit really solidified it.
She liked it all...the stained concrete floors...the wall texture...the look...how quiet it is...sense of security and strength. How it all works together was a hit for both of us. Even for me, it was better than I thought too...I am sold on this method and style.
This is the right path for us.
Remember that when it is block stacking time. 🙂
It's not that bad really, I did about 80 percent of the stacking and all of the surface bonding by myself and it took 2 weeks. Newsettler helped setting the first bond beam and then helped with the last couple courses when they were getting high. He stood up there and I just threw the blocks up to him.

....bringing in my old time mason buddy Vern...and he will bring a couple of other masons with him...I will be right there with them...but I think it's worth several hundred bucks for labor and skill and ultimately speed...and there is no way in hell I am lifting 10 inch block 4-5-6-7-8 feet in the air...and the masonry chimney is like 18 or 20 feet...nope...not a chance from me...I will do the low level work...Instead I will get old Vern the mason with one foot to do the heavy work...really, he only has one foot and can out work mason's half his age...he is a great guy and a good friend...and he never complains, just keeps working.

Vern says he has never done dry stacked before like this. He says he will build it anyway I want...lol. He tells me that he has heard it is stronger but just never built with it...all he has done is parge it on regular mortared walls (which defeats the purpose of the fiberglass strands)
He told me he has talked to people about it before but they don't want it in their house.
He said from what he has heard that he thinks it will be fine, and that since we are coring the 10 inch block and adding the bond beam at the top he know's we are in the 'over kill' zone....or 'no kill' zone...pretty sure it can stop most small arms fire as needed.
Vern is a brother, he would never let me do anything that he didn't have faith in.
