Last friday night, we had a party of four come in. They finished eating around 6 and asked if they could leave their car in the parking lot overnight.
Sure not a problem.
Well the car sat there all weekend. We took off sunday for Pa. for x-mas and on monday, my shift manager called me and said the car was still there.
I told her to call the police, have them run the plates and try and contact the people. Had christmas on tuesday, headed back to maine on wed morning and when we got in at 3 pm the car was still there. Went in and talked to my manager to see what was going on with it. She said the police had been back several times that day, said they had been calling the house and there was no answer, they tried contacting her place of work, but can't reach her (not sure how they can get someones work number by pulling the plate)
My manager asked if anyone had gone to their house (they live two towns over) to make sure they were alright, she said the officer said no and left.
Well with the storm coming yesterday we had it towed due to plowing the parking lot.
So here this car sits across the street from me at the towing company and as far as I know, no one has gone to their house yet.
Does that not seem strange?

if it was an old beat up car it could have been possible that they just abandonned it.
a newer car, maybe they robbed the house of people on vacation, took the car, drove a few towns away, left it there. that would explain why there is no answer at the car owner's house.
there are so many possible stories. you did the good thing mentionning it to the police, so if the owners are missing, the police can trace it back to your restaurant.
