I do like the thought of buying across state lines, we only have three insurers here in Maine and we get hosed
Donald Trump on Wednesday released some details about his healthcare plans, an area where he has been criticized by his rivals for failing to outline a vision.
Trump’s plan largely follows standard Republican ideas, except for the area of prescription drugs, where he has taken positions more common with Democrats.
First, the plan emphasizes that ObamaCare will be fully repealed, including the mandate for everyone to have coverage, an issue that has sparked criticism against Trump.
Trump’s main ideas for a replacement are to allow health insurance to be sold across state lines and permit people to make tax-free contributions to Health Savings Accounts (HSAs). HSAs are paired with a high deductible health insurance plan and are intended to make people more conscious of how they spend health dollars and reduce costs.
Both are standard Republican healthcare ideas. Experts say that both ideas are more in the realm of dealing with healthcare costs and would not do much to expand coverage for the people who would be losing it with the repeal of ObamaCare.
"These proposals, including repeal of the [Affordable Care Act], would lead to a significant increase in the number of people uninsured," Larry Levitt, vice president of the Kaiser Family Foundation, which does nonpartisan healthcare analysis, wrote in an email. "In that sense, this plan really isn’t a replacement for the ACA. But that makes sense, since the aims are very different – less spending, less regulation, and lower taxes."

Medical malpractice has been wildly expensive since the 90s. A trend from all the litigation that was becoming common place in the 80s. Lawyers have their hooks too deep into this cash cow to let any kind of reform go through, they will fight with everything they have to preserve their lucrative income.
I have seen a number of MDs leave private practice to work for hospitals in order to be under their malpractice umbrella. We are getting to the point where most care will be delivered by a 'few' big providers in a region...less choice and more wait...and a lot of 'obtaining service' (at least the good service and the right level of service) will come down to who you know and what you know...heck, we are already there in many regards.
Hard to see how to change the beast that has been created.
I see a lot of issues in this country revolving around a few things. Loss of integrity in law makers/politicos, urbanization, and growing population that we can' keep up with in many ways. (yes, there are many factors that tie into this and directly impact the cause/effect of what I have mentioned) History has shown us failures of govt gone wild, heavy urbanization, etc...we live in challenging times...and the little guy/average guy is in a precarious place.

it's a vicious cycle, they make bills, laws and tax rules with so much legalese that the average person doesn't understand what the heck is going on anymore
