In 2007 Andrei Karpov from Murmansk, Russia, ran out of money during his poker game agains Sergey Brodov. He made a quick run-through in his head of what belongings he had that he could bet and concluded betting his wife would be a good idea. I guess we all have different interpretations of ownership. Karpov’s wife, Tatiana, was not pleased with his bet and divorced him, after which she, indeed, married Brodov. What?
Your Breasts
Brian Zembic of Toronto won $100,000 bet when he betted that he’d get breast implants for an entire year. He got his breast implants in 1997 and…still has them. He says he’s gotten used to them and that the man-boobs have earned him lots of money in media appearances and flashing them in public. Other strange bets he has won: $15,000 to live in a men’s restroom for an entire month.
A Bottle of Urine
Brian Hamedl was playing poker with Kyle Tarboro when he told Tarboro he had urine stored in his vehicle that Tarboro could use to cheat on a drug test. They bet $300 on whether Hamedl actually had the urine. When the game wrapped up Tarboro demanded either the bottle of urine or the money. Hamedl claimed the bet was absurd, reason for Tarboro to beat the living daylights out of him.
Your Entire Life
Ashley Revell sold everything he owned, including all his clothes, traveled to Las Vegas and bet the whole lot ($136,000) on a roulette game with a 50/50 outcome. Now that’s confidence for ya. This is what happened:
18 Hours in the Ocean
During a day at the beach, Phil Hellmuth bet friend Huck Seed that he couldn’t stand in ocean water, up to his shoulders for 18 hours. The amount at stake was $50,000, and Huck figured he could do it. The former World Series Champ lasted…for three hours.
Your Weight
Our own Doyle Brunson has lost a ton of money betting that he’d lose weight, but never did. In 2003 a group of players offered 10 to 1 on a $100,000 stake that he would not be able to weigh below 300lb. Fat chance they thought. Fortunately for Doyle Brunson, and unfortunately for them, they lost their bet. Brunson won $1 million. I wish someone would bet that on me.
