we are currently on godaddy with a shared IP, well this afternoon this place was slower than hell, I did a reverse IP lookup for our address and there are over 6000 other sites on this IP, I can get a dedicated IP for a couple of bucks a month, will that keep this place from lagging all to hell? thank you

I would think so. I have seen some lag since I got back, but it hasn't been terribad. Wish I knew more about this stuff, but I imagine less traffic would = less lag right?

A static IP may help improve the performance, but my guess is that it won't by much. A static IP allows you to do some things in the network like VPNs and tunneling, but technically it's not a necessity for improving speed. What you may want to look at is the Service Level Agreements (SLA's) of Godaddy. They may have a traffic prioritization service that would/could help more.

well I upgraded to the static, it seems faster today, we shall see, I'll give it a month or so and look into switching if it stays that way. I looked at service level agreements, only thing I could find is a virtual dedicated server where they partition and guarantee 1 GB of ram just for this site, but that runs 24 bucks a month.

I also installed a cache plug in so pages are served faster, if anyone notices any hang ups let me now, I set the cache to expire after a hour, I can increase or decrease that

thank-you B, I appreciate it sincerely, but if it becomes a issue, I will just take care of it myself. I don't want or expect members here to pay anything
