1st Week of MN Fishing Opener | The Woodsman Hut | Forums

Finally. Open water season has come. Dont get me wrong. I love ice fishing and I look forward to next year where I can continue to apply all that I learned this year and expand on it even more.

But open water has my heart.

I didnt get out in the kayak much due to weather (high winds) and I didnt get pics of everything I caught but it was a good week. I estimate I landed well over 50 fish since Opener. Many were largemouth bass. Technically their season isnt open yet but they are an aggressive fish and they seem to hit everything and anything you throw out there. I believe in following the rules when it comes to this but it can be out of your control.

I did catch one REALLY nice Northern on my lunch break during the week. Had to be at least 3lbs, probably more. Couldnt get a pic though. I was on lunch and my hands were covered in fish slime and I didnt want to reach into my pocket for my phone and get it all in my pocket then go back to work, lol.
