heys bob and welcome.

my kids and I watch this show. just got finished with tonights episode.

one dude got a bunch of mushrooms. Alan has a great camp built. But only thing I've seen him eat so far is a slug and some kelp.

mitch is my favorite on the show. he finally got his net out and went back to check on it. huge salmon in it. he cooked it and ate some/most of it. but later that night, mountain lion at his tent.

pretty scary.

i agree about the hunting. I would have brought the bow/arrows and fishing line. tied the line to my arrows and gone hunting fish or small game.

i would have at least shot 1 arrow at the mountain lion. not sure why, but alan only one there that isnt just using tarp to live in. that would have been the 2nd thing I did. after finding fresh water

I stand partially corrected,

The one survivor finally set out his gill net and caught a salmon.

Then he proceeded to dress it and cook in right in his camp in the heart of bear and cougar country.

Think Ill watch a few more episodes before I send in the application

I've only caught some of the show, saw some the other night, was that one dude really trying to build a log cabin?

It can be done.  I've built a couple of Red Jacket shelters in remote locations with an axe and a crosscut saw

Agreed it can be done, just a lot of caloric output for the end result. Add to that the mental devastation of failure which he appeared to be battling with. Personally I would shoot for a smaller wattle and daub structure.

alan just cut some trees down and laid them next to a giant log. pretty study. he lights a fire at the entrance to keep out critters.

I would have done this one day one or two. not sure why the guys still only have tarps with the amount of dangerous wildlife out there.

Good stack wall lean-to and a hot draft bed would work too
