what the hell was nicole thinking of letting those salmon go?!? She is going to regret that.
Possibly. Not sure why she hasn't made a smoker and tried long term storage.
Conversely, I'm starting to be convinced that Nicole is going to be the winner . . . barring a bad experience with a bear.
interesting interview with Nicole

quick synopsis
- Going on a Vancouver Island paleo diet a month before starting taping
- Making fire with wet wood every morning for a month before the start of the show
- Reading up on every single plant and wildlife she was likely to find
- Spending time with local native americans to learn all the best ways of finding food in this particular environment
Arriving on the island she seems to have had a well thought out plan:
- When she got the the island she spent hours walking to find the best spot to build her camp, she wasn't just dropped there.
- The first thing she did was to build a really good bed so that she could keep dry
- She then built a shelter that was so well insulated that she could warm it up in five minutes using hot stones (the shelter being partially dug out, as she had brought a frying pan that could also be used as a shovel)
She kept a list of all the different food she had found. All in all she ate 25 different types of food, not including purely medicinal plants. With that kind of diversity in the food sources she was able to use, I'm pretty sure she could have made either location work for her.
(Oh, and about being calm around the bears - she mentioned that she had done her PHD studying lions in Africa, often alone. This girl is the real deal)
