So I got furloughed from my job and decided that rather than sit on my ass and collect unemployment, I should find some work somewhere. Well a buddy of mine lives in Memphis and owns an HVAC company and invited me down to do some work with him. Been here just over a week and I have a buddy from the Army who lives a few hours south of here in Northern Louisiana. He's a TRUE redneck type that would fit in perfectly here. He trains protection dogs, is a bronze star combat vet, half Indian, runs a farm, trains hunting dogs, and does all his hunting on horeseback. We ran dogs and hunted on horseback with NO GUNS. He kills all his pigs by knife. We ended up getting 3, I killed 2 of them. Grab the back legs, throw it on its side, stab it in the heart. Pretty crazy but the trip was awesome and an eye opening experience. I brought some of the meat back with me to Memphis and the guy I'm staying with here is a sort of BBQ guru so I had him cook some of it up and it was superb. I cannot wait to go again.
Not hard at all. You let the dogs go and they get on a trail and run one down. The first hog is easy to find cuz the dogs are tracking a herd. But once you find the first one the herd breaks up and they all run their own way and then its a little harder. It was pretty awesome watching the dogs work. Especially the #1 dog. He mixes up his dogs pretty well. He has his best hunting dog, a decent one, a couple younger ones that are there to learn by watching the lead dog, and then a catch dog who's job is to latch on to the hog once the scent hounds run it down.
