My intention was to find some Musky but there were none to be found today. Instead I found a nice pike.

I was walking down this channel and made a few casts when I noticed a sort of drainage pipe slowly but surely pushing out a nice current. There were some lily pads as well so I knew there had to be fish there. I was right.

It took me about 10 minutes of rocking him for the life to come back. He darted out into the lily pads. I hope he made it.

In order to land him I had to jump off about a 5-6' retaining wall into the lake onto some wobbly rocks. It was intense. He went airborne twice and it was pretty epic.

I caught him with my medium heavy Gander Mountain Guide Series rod, Abu Garcia C3 6501 reel, with 50# PowerPro braided line.

This was the lure I used (1oz):

Nice looking fish and one ugly looking dude all in the same pic. Good job, man. I'm sure he survived but was probably worn out after a good fight.

Your first sentence is true, all true.

He was tired. The fight went longer than it had to, simply because of the terrain I had to deal with in trying to get down there to him and grab him with the lip gripper. He made one good dive into those lily pads and I had to horse him out of there, after that he was done.

I rocked him for quite a while and when he left my hand he seemed like his power was back.

Im going to say that it was about 32-34" long, which would make for about a 8.5-10.5 pound fish, depending on what his girth was.
