I thought it would be cool to make a thread for mushroom hunting/identification.

Here are some Grey Morels (Morchella Deliciosa) and Yellow Morels (Morchella Esculenta)

These are just a few of the specimens I collected this year, I sauteed these and they were excellent. This is the first year that I have found morels, it is also the first time I have eaten them.

I found some Half Free Morels (Morchella Semilibera) however I did not eat them, only harvested for identification purposes. I thought that they might be Verpa Bohemica's but settled on Morchella Semilibera after cutting some in half and looking at the cross section.

Also some Chaga (Inonotus Obliquus) I found earlier this year.

I have more photos of some panaelous, morchella, and a few other species somewhere that I can post if anyone else is interested in mushrooms.

Mushrooms scare me.  I've always heard that you don't eat them unless you REALLY know your stuff.

Yes mushrooms can be very dangerous. Nausea, liver damage, organ failure, even death can occur if you make a misidentification. That is what makes it so interesting. Under no circumstance do I ingest anything that I am not 100% sure about, which requires a decent microscope for spore analysis. However morels can be easily identified if you are careful and do your research. Mycology is a really interesting hobby though, and if nothing else it can put a little food on the table every now and then.

I think I already posted pics on another thread here of a few types. I only hunt mushrooms I am very familiar with and you still need to be vigilant! For some reason I can't see your pictures...hoping I can get them to load later.

KVR... I want to try that too if I can just get the time. I have plenty of hardwoods to use, just need to order the spore and drill some logs.

Im a total amateur but there are a few that I have been eating for years and am 100% secure in my ID. It is a fascinating hobby and I love doing spore prints. Fungi art!
