So I decided to spend the day hiking with one of my buddies. Was a nice chance to get the dogs outside too. We drove back on a dirt road about 6 miles to the little parking landing.

The road we came up

A different view panning to the right some

Even further right, you can't see it but the trail we too is directly ahead

We hiked up the creek bed about 3 or 4 miles

Found some shade with a nice view of the canyon to stop and chill out for the day

180 degrees from the last pic, this is where we decided to stop

There was a tree that got hit by lightning it looks like and had some really nice natural charcoal I was able to harvest

Got some other materials to get lunch started

**DO NOT MAKE A FIRE IN THE WILDERNESS UNLESS 1. YOU KNOW WHAT YOU ARE DOING AND HOW TO PROPERLY PUT IT OUT, AND 2. YOU ARE 100% CERTAIN IT IS OK FOR THE AREA WHERE YOU ARE (permits, ranger permission etc)**

Got some old waterlogged bark wood from the creek bed that had a chance to dry out thoroughly

Then I used a little stone age tech to pulverize it into a powder for my tinder bundle

My weak attempt at making spark based fire lol

We let it die down some, then we added a bunch of that charcoal from the downed tree, it turned into a nice bed of coals to cook our lunch over

Man those sausages were good!

Can't wait to do it again!

No but she sure wanted to lol! Fortunately I managed to tame the beast with some dry salami I happened to pack that morning so no one got hurt! (or eaten)

Looks like a fun day DD. Way to much rain in my area but hopefully I can get out and do something similar soon.
