anyone do this? As kids growing up my father had his own garage with a river running behind it, my brother and I would go crayfish hunting under the bridge all day long. Haven't done it in years.

We'd use crawfish nets.

Bait them with beef spleen(called "melt"), and check the traps every 15-20 minutes. As a kid, I'd run @ 2 dozen traps in one of the drainage canals alongside one of the city dumps, and I'd usually catch 60-90 lbs in a few hours.

Wouldn't dare eat them personally, but people were willing to buy them even knowing where they came from.

Some of my coonass relatives run traps in their rice fields. They use shad for bait. This kind for deeper water:

I have never had crawfish but they look like fun to catch.

We have a smaller variety of Crawfish here called "Yabbies", we have them living in our dam (irrigation pond), Erin traps them every couple of months and eats them, personally I'm not a big shellfish fan but apparently they are delicious...
