Baking your own bread at home is a great hobby and a way to save some money on your weekly food bill. You can make bread for a fraction of the cost of what you would spend at the grocery store and you end up with a much better quality product. One type of bread that my daughter really loves is the honey wheat bread that you get at some of the chain restaurants that bring you a small loaf and a side dish of cinnamon butter. Since we don’t eat out often, here is a simple copy cat recipe we make at home.
Ingredients
- 4 cups whole wheat flour
- 2 cups white flour
- 2 tbsp melted butter
- 1 tsp salt
- 1 package yeast or 1 tbsp out of a jar
- 1 cup honey
- 1 cup warm water
Gather your supplies
Combine honey and warm water
Add yeast and let rest for 5 minutes
Combine flours in mixing bowl
Pour yeast mixture and butter into flour
Stir together with a fork
Then mix by hand and knead for 10 minutes
Cover with towel and let it rest for one hour
Cut it in half
Flatten and form two more dough balls
Let it proof for another 45 minutes
Flatten the dough ball
Fold 1/3 of it over
Fold the other side over
Pinch the seam closed and repeat
Set seam side down in pan and let it double
Bake at 375 for 35 minutes or so
